I wanted to thank the Lucky Horseshoe Caballeros team for allowing me to
play the first two games of the match even though I was written into
the #4 position. I had forgot to bring meds with me to take
As I have a serious infection and since I live in Vallejo I was able to leave
the match early to go home. This is what sportsmanship is about
and I aplaud them for their consideration!

Members of SFPA:

At the June 28, 2015 meeting of the West Coast Challenge (WCC) Committee, a proposed motion was put forth to the committee to consider changing the format of WCC from every 6 months to once a year. It is also proposed that WCC to be held in mid to late January due to the several conflicts around late June to early July (Pride, Comic Con, 4th of July).

Reason for the proposed change – Since 1980, the cost of both hosting and traveling to a WCC has increased over 300%. The increased cost of airline tickets, hotel rooms, food, trophies and the need to rent pool tables has been bleeding our leagues dry for quite sometime. SFPA spends about $6,375 each season to send our delegates to WCC when hosted in Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego, and about $18,000 to host WCC in San Francisco.

The last time WCC experienced any growth was in 1992 when Long Beach was added as a 4th city. Since then, WCC has seen no growth at all. By changing to once a year there is a great potential to expand to other cities who are currently interested in joining the WCC, but cannot afford to do so twice a year because of the size of their leagues. The same applies to our current cities that have experienced dwindling memberships over the last several years.

Being that all of our cities conduct 2 seasons a year and have 2 sets of winners, the dilemma for each city is coming up with a fair way to decide who gets to represent their city at WCC. Each city would be tasked with determining their policies on who goes to WCC.

If is it decided that WCC changes to once a year, it was also proposed that WWC take place in January 2016, to be hosted by Long Beach, then change to a once a year rotation beginning with Los Angeles hosting in January 2017.

If we approve the changing of WWC to once a year, each city would save thousands of dollars each year. Because of these savings, we would have the opportunity to really energize both the WCC competition and the membership in each city by expanding to include a “Recreational Team”. The WCC Committee would provide suggested qualifications for this new Recreation Team for each city to consider as policy. It was also suggested that because of the savings, SFPA might be able to sponsor individuals to Las Vegas for the BCA National Championships.

The SFPA Board would like your input on the above-proposed changes to WCC. Your input will be valuable to the Board and help us in determining how SFPA will vote on this issue at the next WCC Committee Meeting to be held in January 2016 in Long Beach. You will have an opportunity to voice your opinion on the SFPA website discussion board, at the Membership Meeting on Tuesday, July 29 at The Café starting at 6:30 pm and again at the Captain’s Meeting on Saturday, August 8 at Pilsner Inn starting at 11:00 am.

Thank you, and we look forward to your thoughts and input!

Ray

Well, it's that time of year again for the annual, non-league sponsored, poorly attended, Free Pool night at The Cinch in celebration of my Birthday! Starting about 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27th, the tables will be open, so feel free to ditch the family and friends and show up for some holiday pool fun! It's the best deal in town! ('Cause it's free, you see...)

Front page says the Membership Meeting is Tuesday Jan. 28; but I show the 28th as being Thursday...typo?

Just starting a carpool thread. I'm looking for a ride to Long Beach and back if anyone is planning to drive down. Heading down there early Friday morning is ideal for me, but I will ride down Thursday if I have to.
Let me know if you have room.
Thanks and happy holidays,
Dave Schroerlucke

Members of SFPA,

As we begin to plan for next season, I’d like to start a discussion on our tournaments that we hold throughout the season and try to find out what has been the cause of such low turnout lately. Is it because of: Location? Day & time? Entry fees? Prizes? Format? You didn’t know about them? No interest? How can we inspire you to want to participate? Discuss…

Thanks,

Ray Smith

Help Wanted … Two New Committees Formed!

The SFPA Bylaws and Policies were originally written in 1978. The membership has indicated that a review is needed and the Board agrees.

“Hall of Fame Review Committee”

This committee will be comprised of two (2) members at large, three (3) current Hall of Fame members and one (1) board member as Committee Chair.

If you are interested or would like more information on serving on either committee, please email me directly at president@sfpapool.org.

NEED A STABLE ROOMMATE FOR SHORT OR LONG-TERM?

Then I'm your man. Rick Bradford here, long time member of the SFPA. It's been a rough year and I had to sell the house and the short term housing I was in is about to end. Looking for either a room to rent or becoming a roommate of some of my long time friends in the SFPA. Text me at 415/987-4878 and I will get back to you (I have to keep the phone off during the day while at work, that's why a text will be better and I can phone later). Thanks for any assistance that might be available. Truly appreciate anything that you all have to offer.
