A Letter from the President

Hello Fellow Pool Players,

We hope you are well and are looking forward to returning to the league when we start up again. The Board is planning our return to play and have a lot of information to share with you, so please read this email completely.

With the projected opening date for California being June 15th, we are hoping to start the fall season on August 17th. We will let you know additional dates as they are finalized.

The Board has decided that we will not be charging dues this coming season for players or sponsor bars given the challenging year we have all had. (Donations are welcome and are 100% tax deductible.) We have also decided to shorten our fall season to 10 weeks given the uncertainty the pandemic continues to create.

We have developed a list of safety protocols for when we do return to play. The document is attached. Most notably, wearing a mask covering your nose and mouth will be required at the table at all times and failure to comply will result in a loss of game.

We are holding elections for President, Secretary, Co-Head-Referee (Stern’s position) and Member-at-Large (Troy’s position.) If you would like to run for any of these positions, contact president.sfpapool@gmail.com within the next week. We will also be asking you all to weigh in on whether you plan to return to play in the fall. The ballot will come from secretary.sfpapool@gmail.com and the format is in SurveyMonkey.

We are in the process of enrolling in Amazon Smile which will give SFPA a percentage of all purchases made at Amazon. This is a painless and easy way to raise funds for the league.

The West Coast Challenge will not be played in 2021. LA Pool League was scheduled to host the tournament, but that was derailed due to Covid. We are planning on WCC in August, 2022 in San Francisco.

If you are planning on playing in the BCA Nationals in Las Vegas in September, we were told that they are being very flexible in terms of eligibility to play.

Please feel free to reach out to me and let me know your thoughts, questions, and whether you plan on playing in the fall. Looking forward to seeing you all in person.

Warmest regards,
Joan Pettijohn
SFPA League President

Elections and an Update From our President

Hello everyone,

We hope you all are well and have gotten some time on a pool table somewhere. The Board has been meeting regularly and we are committed to playing a spring season if at all possible. Many people indicated on the Covid survey that they would play in the spring. If it is safe, we hope to return to some league play with lots of flexibility about timing.

Our bylaws require elections being held every season. Although we are not playing now, the Board has been meeting regularly so we will be conducting an election this season. The positions that are available are:

Vice-President-currently held by Thayer McDougle
Treasurer-currently held by Crystal Kelem
Co-Head Referee-currently held by Anthony Hydron
Co-Member at Large-currently held by Nick Lansdown

If any of you want to run for election for any of these positions, please let me know by next week, Friday, October 23. The ballot will be sent shortly after that. via Survey Monkey. The officers currently in these positions are running for reelection.

Also, CSI/BCA changed their calendar year so we have needed to update our member status. That has been done and will be finalized shortly. At this point they do plan to play in March. Due to the shutdowns they will only require 16 games to be eligible.

If you all haven’t heard, the Great Entertainer in San Mateo is open for play. They require masks and are using precautions as I heard through the grapevine.

Please reach out and let us know how you all are doing.

Stay safe and be well,
Joan for the SFPA Board of Directors

Fall Season Update

Good day pool lovers,
I hope you all are well and staying safe and not too bored while sheltering.
Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey regarding Covid and league play. If you have not seen the results, they are available on Facebook and on the website. Clearly we are all concerned about the virus and are also all missing the league and pool.

The Board has been meeting regularly to determine the feasibility of playing in the fall and the spring. Given the uncertainty of the re-openings of the bars, we have decided to cancel the fall season. There is no estimate of when the bars will open at this time. The safety of our members and staff at our sponsor bars is paramount to our decision. Other pool leagues in the area have made the same decision.

If the bars open later in the fall, we are hoping to sponsor some tournaments and other safe and fun events.

We are in contact with CSI in Vegas regarding eligibility for the tournament in March and will let you know what eligibility requirements they will have.

Also, based on the decisions of our sister leagues and the vote of our members, the West Coast Challenge will be held annually.

We are sorry to bring this unfortunate, yet not unsurprising news. Again, we will keep you informed as things occur.

Many warm regards,
Joan
